HISTORYIn 1846 the York & North Midland Railway Co. was granted permission to build a line from Beverley to Hornsea, and in 1861 Joseph Armytage Wade promoted the building of a line from Hornsea to Hull & the Hull & Hornsea Railway Co. was formed.
The line opened in 1864 but after little or no financial success the company merged with North Eastern Railway in 1866. Just northeast of Wassand Low Crossing was Goxhill Station, which opened in 1864 & was renamed Wassand Station in 1904. Wassand closed for passengers in 1953 & entirely in 1960, before the closure of the line in 1965. A mile or so southwest of here, Hatfield Station also opened in 1864 & was renamed Sigglesthorne ten years later. Sigglesthorne closed for goods in 1963 & entirely in 1964.
The dismantled railway line now forms the Hornsea Rail Trail & the eastern stretch of the Trans Pennine Trail. The Trans Pennine Trail runs for 215 miles from Hornsea to Southport & was officially opened in September 2001.
INVESTIGATION:-
A circular tour taking in several of East Yorkshire's finest villages featuring woods, churches & old railways.......
We set off from Hull for our 1st destination on The Winter Tour of Yorkshire. It was a cold night with a slight frost on the ground. We passed through the village of Coniston & turned onto a small lane just off Mulberry lane on the outskirts of Skirlaugh. We headed down the bendy winding road through woods & fields before passing through the village of Old Ellerby. We continued our journey through more woods before breaking into an opening to reveal the magnificent Burton Constable Hall lit up by flood lighting. Corrine had picked up on Romans just as we came into the opening.
We had arrived at our 1st destination “Burton Constable Woods” right opposite the ghostly Hall. We walked back up the lane to a spot overlooking the hall with a dyke at the side of us. Here we called out asking for a loud bang on the road & for any spirits to come towards us so we could hear their footsteps. Corrine had picked up on a horse & carriage.
The wind was blowing here with us being in an open spot so it was difficult to recognise any paranormal activity, so after a while, we decided to head into the woods. After making our way through the brambles & trees, we managed to form a circle in the woods & began to call out asking for branches to break, leaves to rustle.
Corrine was really uneasy & Sue had being on edge & didn’t really want to go into the woods from the start. As we called out, Corrine came through with devil worshipping & told us we should leave. We headed back to the car to continue the tour.
Before we continued our Yorkshire Tour, the girls wanted to take some more photos up the lane so they went for a short walk, Myself & Craig went to put some music on in the HPGS Ghost Car & “The Duelling Banjos” came on, unfortunately the fun side of us took over & we danced around. We didn’t realise that the girls had returned & was filming us !!
I must apologise now for that….although you do have to have a fun side as well as a serious side for the job that we do!!
Continuing our journey… we passed through the village of New Ellerby continuing along the winding roads before arriving at our 2nd destination “Old Station House & Railway – Great Hatfield”….We headed onto the platform & started to call out, unfortunately Corrine didn’t pick up on anything here so we quickly changed location & moved to the old railway lines a few minutes walk from the platform.
We formed a circle & called out, we didn’t get anything at first but after a short while Craig spotted a small orange light near the bushes so myself along with Craig headed off to have a look, leaving the girls to call out. Craig went ahead with me following, after a short walk I heard my Radio go off with a male voice talking. I couldn’t believe it because my radio was turned off at the last location & it was still off now when I checked it.
I was so excited that this had happened that I called out for it to happen again; unfortunately it didn’t so I got the group together & we called out for other things to happen, trying musical enticement. Unfortunately nothing happened. With the temperature being so cold, we decided to continue the tour so we all headed back to the car to continue to our 3rd destination.
We headed through more woods & travelled down more country lanes to arrive at our 3rd destination “Rise Church”. We headed up the steps towards the church & discovered a door facing the floor….We opened it to discover steep steps leading deep down into an underground room. Corrine decided that it was the duty of me to investigate what lay deep underneath the church.
Luckily Craig volunteered to go down with me so leaving Sue, Laura & Corrine on the outside world; we descended underground into this room. We discovered that it actually was only a small storage type room which held a small generator type machine which kept going on & off & making us jump a few times with the loud noise it made when it started up.
As we got settled in this dark room, Corrine closed the door which made us slightly nervous but excited. We called out for any loud bangs & received a loud bang on the door. I then heard a noise from the corner of the room which sounded like a cross between a cough & a scream; it’s really hard to explain the noise. We asked again & straight away we got a response & again. It really was fascinating & after speaking to the others, they also confirmed hearing a very similar sound. Sue, Laura & Corrine also felt a presence near them. We didn’t get chance to explore any of the other areas of the church with it being so cold.

We returned for a mini investigation, the weather wasn't great but we decided, with last minute planning to revisit the locations on this tour. We arrived on site at 10.45pm, After doing our protection we headed around the [perimeter of the church before heading to the underground room. Rob.J wasn't happy with going down so he stayed outside alone guiding the door for safety reasons. Me & Craig went underground into the room, we called out for any spirits to come forward, we tried banging on the walls for some response & we asked for the EMF meter to be affected. Unfortunately no positive results, next we asked for the temp to drop, straight away we both felt it get colder but without the temperature monitor we couldn't confirm this. Straight after this I glanced across at the camera, to the left of it was like a flash of light with a face showing. I cannot verify any features as it was a split second image, it may well have being a trick of the eye but what i saw freaked me out slightly & I must admit it put me on edge, possibly with it being in such a small enclosed area. We continued to call out for more activity, more prove of existence before moving off to our next location. As we headed back to the car, I kept getting that feeling something was following me. We quickly moved on after closing down at 11.20pm.
Our next location was the old railway house, here we stopped for a short 10 minutes just to take some photographs before forwarding on to Burton Constable woods. We arrived at around 11.50pm. & walked down the narrow lane calling out & then headed back to C KING 1. Due to the weather conditions we decided to drive down slowly monitoring the area for any sightings while filming to see if anything was caught on film.
We left this location at around 12.25am to head back to HQ to write up the reports.

22nd INVESTIGATION

Location:
Newbeggin pits(Beverley Westwood)/

HISTORY:-
Newbiggin Pits, part of Beverley Westwood, was the site of mining activities in early times. Now a lovely green site for all kinds of recreation, including common pasture land for the Freemen of Beverley.
All Hallows church has 12th century origins, but the tower dates from the 14th and 15th century. Parts were re-built in the 1800s. Currently Grade 2 listed.
A TWIN INVESTIGATION:-
A last minute decision taking in two of East Yorkshire's locations featuring woods & a church......
Due to unexpected adverse weather conditions, a last minute decision was made to investigate two locations side by side. Our first destination nearer to home was Beverley Westwood arriving on location at 9.20pm.
We began with baseline testing…reading TEMP 2.6°c / HUM 38 / SOUND 68.4 Db
We then headed off deep into the wooded area to explore the surroundings. Rob J decided to go off alone for a walk round.
We started to call out for any spirits to come forward while monitoring the equipment for any alterations in readings. Unfortunately there were no positive readings at this location.
We then decided to meet up with Rob.J & move through the woods towards another opening; there we tried musical enticement & various other call outs but again no luck with any paranormal activity.
We stopped at this location for around 1 hour before making our way through the woods back to the car, however before reaching the car; we came upon an obstacle… a steep slope & with the ground covered in ice... there was only one way down without looking for the way we came!!
Rob.J went first sliding down to the bottom. We all safely made it back to the car so we could head for our next destination.
We arrived at All Hallows church…Walkington at around 10.30pm. We again carried out the baseline tests first….TEMP 1.8°c / SOUND 70Db.
We then walked along side the church down a tree lined path heading towards an open field. We called out asking for any spirits present to effect the equipment or any indication of their presence.
The EMF meter did go off a few times aswell as the dowsing rods crossing but other then that we had no strong readings from the rest of the equipment. At around 11.15pm we decided to head back to the HQ…this being due to an investigator not feeling well & the unexpected weather.
