HISTORY
The deserted medieval village of Cottam can be found down Langtoft lane out of Langtoft off the B1248. All that remains of the village is a small derelict church named "Holy Trinity" The bell tower can be seen above the hollow in which it sits.
INVESTIGATION
We set off for our destination:- Cottam Deserted Medieval Village. Arriving at 1.28am. From parking the car, we had a short walk to get to our location. Once we arrived, we walked round the perimeter of the derelict church before I ventured alone into the church just to film the inside before returning outside, For safety reasons, as the church is very derelict, I went in alone for only a few seconds.
While walking round the building we didnt really pick much up apart from a few background noises in the distance.
We did our first vigil at the front of the church, calling out for any spirits to come forward. Unfortunately we didn't get any response, so we went on to try musical enticement. I asked Craig to whistle & I asked any spirits to return the sound. Again we didn't really get any response so we decided to move round to the rear of the building to carry out a second vigil.
Unfortunately due to the full team not being present with me at this location we were unable to carry out any EVP recordings.
Once we got into place, we started our second vigil. We stood in a small circle & called out. We then threw a ball & asked any spirits present to throw the ball back to us. We did this several times & again got no response.
We felt after several times of calling out & trying different vigil's that it was time to call it a night as we wern't getting anything at all. We returned here with the full team to discover if Cottam is really haunted - please read the write ups below !!

INVESTIGATION
We decided to visit Cottam Deserted Medieval Village for a second time because the first time we didn't really get anything but felt it needed a further investigation with more time spent on location. Approaching the spooky derelict church we all started feeling uneasy, as we were getting noises from all areas around. Granted we did have to take into consideration on this visit we could hear owls & birds but we were hearing a lot more strange noises then on the last visit. We walked round the perimeter of the derelict church before we ventured inside. We wore hard hats for safety reasons with the church being very derelict. Last visit it wasn't safe to go in to carry out a vigil due to not having the correct safety equipment. While walking around the location we were seeing a lot of shadows & quite often throughout the evening, some of the team felt/saw something/someone walk past them. None of the team could explain what was felt/seen. We did our first vigil at the front of the church, calling out for any spirits to come forward. While doing this we all heard some kind of groaning noise coming from behind us, craig even thought it was from inside the church. We carried on calling out before moving on to try musical enticement with criag whistling out.After a short while we decided with all the noises that we were hearing it would be difficult to reconise any paranormal response so we went on to carry out a second vigil by calling out again. We decided to switch off all torches to be in complete darkness & within a few minutes of calling out, Craig felt something touch him round the neck as if someone was trying to strangle him. Shortly after this, Rich saw a flash of light from the church. We decided to walk up to the church to check it out. We then decided that me & Rich should go into the church to call out. While calling out we did get the EMF meter going off several times. After finishing calling out we left the video camera filming inside the church & the team then ventured off to investigate the surrounding area. **UPDATE** As Rich sees the light from the church, Paul spins the camera around to look at the window where they think the light comes from. If you look at the next window to the right you will see nothing there but keep watching till we walk up to the church & you will see something appears in the window which wasn't there before.It could be nothing but what do you think?? Around 5 mins later we returned to get some photographs before calling it a night at this location. We returned again to Cottam to carry out Investigator training. We decided to visit Cottam Deserted Medieval Village for a third time to use this location for a training session. We gathered round in front of the church before sorting out the equipment. This session was just to give everyone the chance to use the equipment & feel happy on how to use it & ask any questions.
We started the training session by letting the new members get a feel for the location then we let each member choose a piece of equipment before doing a demonstration on how to use it.
After the training we decided to do a small "test" Investigation. We gathered in a circle to do a seance. Corrine did the prayer of protection before we did the vigil. While carrying out this vigil, Corrine warned us of an angry spirit present named Jacob, He didn't want us here at this location. Members of the group started feeling like there was a vice being tightened on their chests & others feeling like they were being watched from a distance.
During this vigil, we were overcome by a thick mist, it then felt like as if people were coming towards us, surrounding us. Corrine made us aware that we were joined by a female spirit called Mary as well & felt that Mary had some connection with Jacob.
After finishing this vigil we decided to try something new. We needed a volunteer to carry out a lone vigil. Craig kindly came forward, most likely regretting it now after he found out what was involved. Our new "lone vigil" idea basically follows the below points.
First, a camcorder is set-up in a location away from everyone else.
Second, the person will be equipped with a radio & torch then blindfolded & lead to the location. A introduction will then be recorded once arrived at location.
Third, The person will be left all alone, after a radio test, They will not be allowed to take off the blindfold until told to do so.
Forth, The person alone can call out for any spirits to come forward, they will be collected after a short period of time.
Now, when me & rich went to collect Craig after the lone vigil, we were suddenly confronted by a figure in the distance with a glow of light, We automatically thought it was Craig, we could see the camcorder in one direction & then this figure in the opposite direction, we frooze & called Craig on the radio. We both got very excited but scared at the same time after discovering that Craig was still at the camcorder!!
The group was behind us, Craig at the camcorder, who was the figure we saw?? We were that scared that we both grabbed each other & rushed over to get Craig!! We hurried back to the rest of the team. What a chilling, petrifying experience!!
The weather at this point dramatically changed & we were confronted by torrential rain, so we had to urgently get back to the car. Unfortunately with the fog being so thick & Rich not very good with directions.......(SORRY RICH) we did end up getting abit lost & taking longer to get back to the car then normal......let's just say everyone was a little wet!!
We may return to Cottam in the future...

INVESTIGATION
We ended up at Cottam, after a planned investigation at Wharram Percy had to be changed last minute on arrival at location. We arrived on site around 10.45pm & made our way to the church.
We started our first vigil by calling out near the door to the church,we asked for bangs on the wall or some indication of the presence of spirits.
We got the EMF meter going off several times while calling out & a few times throughout the investigation. We tried musical enticement in which we got a identical responce, but realised that it was an echo of our own voice's.
We moved location shortly after to an area near the windows of the church.....The reason for this was that on our last visit to Cottam, we got some good responce from inside the church & we caught something on camcorder which you can read about on the previous write ups.
We called out several times trying musical enticement & banging on the wall but again no positive results or readings from the equipment.
We decided to do a lone vigil for our final experiment of the night, I asked for a volunteer but no one agreed so unlucky for me, I had to volunteer !! I took the camcorder & the EMF meter & sat alone away from the church for around ten minutes, no activity occurred on my lone vigil.
I rejoined the group & we formed a circle to call out one last time before we headed back to "C KING 1".
Another good night of exploring & investigating...Join us again as we investigate more of Yorkshire !!
